Monophadnus pallescens

A relatively small (5-6mm) dumpy, black sawfly with a brownish labrum (not visible in this photo) and pale whiteish-coloured tarsi, tibiae and apices of the femora of all legs.

Monophadnus pallescens is widely, although poorly, recorded. Adults are active from April to June, virtually all of which will be females as males of this species are rare. The larvae feed on various types of buttercups.
