Typical habitat: rough grassland, hedgerows - predominantly coastal, but now spreading inland
Larval foodplant:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â various herbaceous plants, including nettles
Flight behaviour: flies at night, but also during the day in sunshine when it feeds on flowers
Flight season: July - September
