Pimplinae

Pimpla cf.flavicoxis

HYMENOPTERA > APOCRITA | Parasitica > Ichneumonidae > Pimplinae > Pimplini

Interestingly, both of the wasps featured here, which were photographed at different locations at different times of the year, were identified by different Ichneumon experts who both independently confirmed that, although there were a few possibilities, they were likely Pimpla flavicoxis.

They are very similar to Pimpla insignatoria and, although the two species can be distinguished with close examination of the antennae and some other specific characters, in most cases that won't be possible from photos.

Both species are regarded as common and widespread particularly in deciduous woodland.
