Ichneumoninae

Ichneumon suspiciosus

HYMENOPTERA > APOCRITA | Parasitica > Ichneumonidae > Ichneumoninae > Ichneumonini

This particular ichneumon is difficult, if not impossible, to positively identify from photos due to the visual similarities with a number of other closely related species. This is particularly true of the black and yellow males, so the individual featured here may well be an entirely different species! The females are black and red with a white-tipped abdomen.

Ichneumon suspiciosus is typically found along woodland rides, hedgerows and in scrubby grassland areas where they often frequent umbellifer flowers to feed on nectar and pollen.
