My fourth Syrphini tribe collection concentrates on just one genus, Eupeodes.

Eupeodes

Due to a good deal of variation in the colour, shape and extent of markings, Eupeodes is regarded as a particularly difficult genus. Although there are nine listed species, only three are normally considered. They are all widespread species that in many areas could be encountered together so careful attention is required when trying to identify them.

Females are more likely to be determined than males but, even so, you'll need a reasonably clear facial shot to be sure, particularly to separate Eupeodes corollae from Eupeodes luniger as those two species have not dissimilar abdominal markings. Eupeodes latifasciatus is more straightforward as the yellow markings form wide bands rather than enlarged spots.

In respect of the males, I believe the only species that could be identified from photos is Eupeodes corollae as they have a distinctive protruding genital capsule. If that feature is not clear, then it's best to record as Eupeodes sp.
