Nomada panzeri
Panzer's Nomad Bee
HYMENOPTERA > APOCRITA | Aculeata > APOIDEA > Apidae
It has to be noted that this species closely resembles Nomada flava to the point that most id's from photos are usually given as Nomada flava/panzeri, or Nomada flava complex, however there are two factors that confirm that the individual in the following photos is very likely Nomada panzeri. Firstly, it’s a male, and the field guide confirms that whilst it’s often stated that they’re indistinguishable from Nomada flava, if the final six antennal segments are orange above then the individual will almost certainly be Nomada panzeri. Secondly, the id is supported by the location, which is ancient coppiced woodland, being the favoured habitat of the species. Adults fly from late March to July. It has various Andrena hosts.
