Lasioglossum fulvicorne

Chalk Furrow Bee

HYMENOPTERA > APOCRITA | Aculeata > APOIDEA > Halicidae

Lasioglossum fulvicorne is strongly associated with calcareous grasslands and similar habitats, and is one of our most common and widespread Lasioglossum species. Females may be seen as early as late March and usually fly until October, with the males showing later in July. They visit a wide variety of flowers and spring blossoms. Males can be abundant on umbellifers in late summer. Identification is difficult as it is with all the species of this genus but, from what I understand, the slimmer males with their long antennae and other characteristics can be separated with reasonable certainty. This particular individual was kindly identified by someone on the BWARS FB group.
